What it is like to live in West Scotland
At the heart of West Scotland lies Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city. There's never a dull moment in Glasgow, and the city has even hosted major international events such as COP26 and the Commonwealth Games of 2014. Outside the city, you'll find big towns right across the region including Ayr, Cumbernauld, Dumbarton, East Kilbride, Kilmarnock, Paisley, and Irvine.
West Scotland is also popular with students. Glasgow is home to four universities - University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonia University, Strathclyde University and the Glasgow School of Art - while Paisley is the home of the University of West of Scotland. You'll also find Glasgow City College, Glasgow Clyde College, Glasgow Kelvin College, South Lanarkshire College, New College Lanarkshire, and Ayrshire College in West Scotland.
The west of Scotland is also well connected by trains. Glasgow is home to two train stations: Glasgow Queen Street with routes that predominately head north, and Glasgow Central with routes predominantly heading south. Most of the towns across West Scotland have train stations, allowing for day trips to the beaches along the west coast and Loch Lomond.
West Scotland is also home to two international airports: Glasgow Airport in Paisley and Glasgow Prestwick Airport in South Ayrshire.
