About Gatehouse of Fleet
Ten miles west of Kirkcudbright in Stewarty is Gatehouse of Fleet, a historic village with roots dating back to the 18th century. Once a thriving port town, which flourished thanks to its shipbuilding and cotton mill industry, Gatehouse is now a peaceful close-knit community, better known for its popular visitor attractions rather than its industry. Among the local attractions is Cream o’ Galloway, an adventure playground and ice cream parlour, and Cardoness Castle, a 15th century ruin.
