About the area
Kinross-shire is incredibly scenic and Kinross itself is host to Loch Leven, the largest stretchof freshwater in East Scotland. Loch Leven is home to an internationally important nature reserve and also played a part in Scotland’s history. It hosts the castle where Mary Queen of Scots was once held prisoner. Kinross-shire itself boasts good farmland with country villages and beautiful gentle landscapes.
Growth and development
Recently, Kinross has expanded somewhat, especially since the construction of the M90 motorway, which bypasses the town.
It is ideally placed for commuters, especially those travelling into Edinburgh as the city is only a thirty minute drive away. This has meant that more people can choose their ideal property in Kinross that may offer more living space that what they would get for the same property price for say something in a city, while still being a comfortable distance away from employment or the major attractions that bigger cities like Edinburgh have to offer.
From antique shops to home crafts and baked goods stores to bigger retail outlets such as Dobbies Garden Centre, Kinross really has something for everyone and has been picking up substantially after the economic difficulties of the last few years.
Lifestyle and entertainment
Kinross offers many opportunities for getting out and being active, offering great opportunities for walking and cycling in the local area. A recently developed path, The Loch Leven Trail, has been developed which offers 12.5km of walking and cycling heritage trail around the shoreline of Loch Leven.
The burgh is attractively located on the shores of Loch Leven, and there are boat trips around the loch and to Loch Leven Castle. There is also a good set of tourist attractions ontop of these such as The Kinross Museum which attracts visitors to Kinross keeping it alive with a steady stream of business in that sector.
A rare feature to be found in Kinross is the ice skating rink which has encouraged curling; a game where large flat stones are slid across a flat surface towards a mark.
There are a range of ammenities to be found in kinross ranging from a variety of options in schooling and college while it has a good offering in terms of health, leisure and entertainment.
