A former royal burgh, Falkland sits at the foot of the Lomond Hills. There are few other Scottish villages that are quite so rich in wonderful old buildings. The best known is, of course, Falkland Palace begun in 1500 by James IV to accommodate the Royal Court. The centre of the village is dominated by the palace gatehouse. It is little wonder that it was designated Scotland’s first ever conservation area in 1970. The village offers primary schooling, local shops, hotels and restaurants, cricket club and golf club. This is an ideal location for commuters to Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh and the rest of Fife.
