What it is like to live in Edinburgh North

Edinburgh North traces the edges of the city centre, then stretches north to the Firth of Forth, west to Leith and then east until the northern section of the bypass. It's a great location for anyone who likes having entertainment on their door-step, with some of Edinburgh's most well-known attractions located in the area (as well as some hidden gems). 

Edinburgh North is also home to the independent school Fettes College, which is located in Crewe. Edinburgh College's Granton Campus is also situated within Edinburgh North. 

In recent years, suburbs such as Corstorphine, Trinity, Pilton and South Gyle have proved to be popular locations for home buyers.

Growth and development

There is a long-term project underway to regenerate Edinburgh’s Waterfront which comes under the umbrella of the City of Edinburgh Councils.

This very important regeneration form part of a programme of plans to address the physical redevelopment of North Edinburgh. Goals for new homes, schools, hotel and leisure facilities alongside retailers and other businesses are targeted with aims to improve transport accessibility.

The recession stalled this ambitious project but with an improving economy, this is on the planners’ table again.

Lifestyle and entertainment

Edinburgh North is home to BT Murrayfield, Scotland's national rugby stadium. On top of several rugby games a year, the venue also hosts some of the biggest names in music. Past acts have included the Spice Girls, Rolling Stones, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. 

Not far from BT Murrayfield you'll find Edinburgh Zoo. The zoo is home to penguins, koalas, chimpanzees, sun bears, giraffes and - of course - the giant pandas! 

For culture enthusiasts, the North Edinburgh Arts Centre is located next to the Muirhouse Library. With purpose-built spaces for exhibitions and theatre productions as well as a music studio, this facility is a flexible and accommodating venue.

On top of that, there's the outdoor attractions at the Edinburgh Waterfront and along the coastline, including Granton Beach, Silverknowes Esplanade, Lauriston Castle, Gipsy Brae Recreation Ground, and Silverknowes Golf Course.
