About Dumfries Town

Affectionately known by locals as the ‘Queen of the South’, Dumfries is the south of Scotland’s largest town, and is a hub for businesses across Dumfries and Galloway, including the local council headquarters. Much of Dumfries is built from local red sandstone, including the high street’s imposing Midsteeple, a historic building dating back to the early 1700s. The housing market in Dumfries has something for everyone, from modern apartments to Victorian townhouses, with the Dumfries suburbs of Georgetown, Calside, Heathhall and Locharbriggs being particular popular locations for families.
