Dalgety Bay is the eighth largest place in Fife with a population of just over 10,000.  Much of the property style in Dalgety Bay is new build and the town is a regular winner of the Best Kept Small Town title. Its rise in population mirrors its rise in popularity as a coastal commuter town for Edinburgh given it’s favourable property prices in comparison to those in the capital.  If you’re looking for a more space and a garden Dalgety Bay could be an option for you.

judieMum of three and Customer Services Adviser for ESPC’s Dunfermline Showroom, Judie Buchanan, tells us a little more about Dalgety Bay.

What makes Dalgety Bay a good place for families?

There’s lots of things to do all within walking distance such as the sports centre, and the beach. Everything you need is easily accessible including supermarkets, two primary schools and a high school. There’s a great train service allowing you go on day trips without having to worry about parking!

Favourite place for eating out with kids and why?

The club house - it's lovely inside and has a great atmosphere. The menu is ideal to choose from and the staff are very child friendly. The price is reasonable too especially when you can tell the food is freshly made.

An interesting fact about the area?

Part of the estate was developed as an aerodrome during World War I and was used by both the Royal Navy and RAF and subsequently reactivated for World War II as HMS Merlin. Donibristle Industrial Park was developed over the runway of the former air base and evidence of the runway can still be found within the estate and near the local tennis courts.

What I love the most...

The friendly atmosphere and some wonderful walks along the coast.

Best kept secret...

The Fife costal path. Starting at the harbour you can walk round the coast to Aberdour and Burntisland with spectacular views over the forth passing some ruins on the way. It also has the benefit of a train station at each end if you don’t want to walk back!

Describe the area in 3-words...

Fun, relaxing, homely.

Is there anyone famous associated with the area?

Apart from me ….. Steven Hendry, Steven Pressley and Gordon Durie!
