About Culross

The town of Culross, pronounced "Coo-ros", is a former royal burgh in Fife. Originally a port city on the Firth of Forth, the town is said to have been founded by Saint Serf, and to have been the birthplace of Saint Mungo.

The beautiful conservation village of Culross is a really different place to live.  It is historic and quirky and has a very lively community, but has a restful and relaxing pace of life. With cobbled streets and secret gardens, it’s always a magnet for tourists and film-makers.

Historic buildings include the mediaeval Abbey with its 12^th century ruins and the 16^th century ‘Palace’ – the National Trust’s first ever property. The ‘Little Houses of Culross’ themselves are a unique group of rescued mediaeval properties.

Right up-to-date is the childrens’ brand-new Playpark, and the Community Garden (of Charlie’s Garden Army fame!).  And of course there are galleries and eateries to help you survive the explorations.

Culross is within an hour’s journey of Edinburgh, Glasgow or Perth by car, but can be accessed by bus too.  There are train stations at Inverkeithing (also a Park & Ride), and at Larbert for Glasgow connections (or P & R at Kincardine).

The small Culross Primary School has a great reputation, and Queen Anne H.S. is also highly rated and now in smart new buildings.

Within the community, there are plenty of events and activities throughout the year for all ages from toddlers upwards!
