About Bonnington

Within easy reach of the City Centre, the Bonnington area of Edinburgh was a thriving industrial area in past centuries but now many of the old buildings have been skilfully renovated and converted for residential use. Houses in Bonnington are a blend of Georgian buildings, traditional flats and modern developments.

The fashionable Shore area of Leith with its retro-cafes, gastro-pubs and award-winning restaurants, is nearby, as is Newhaven, famed for its historic fisherman's cottages, charming harbour and breath-taking views across the Forth.

Local amenities include a variety of shops and well-respected schools. Ocean Terminal is also nearby offering a plethora of High Street names for more extensive retail therapy.

Local leisure and recreational facilities include the open spaces of historic Leith Links, the Water of Leith, local golf courses, health clubs, cinemas and swimming pools.

I live in Whitingford, in the Bonnington area. It’s a bit of an undiscovered gem - very quiet and tucked away, but only 20 minutes walk or a short bus ride from the city centre. The water of Leith walkway goes right past our street, which is great for running, cycling or just walking the dog without having to worry about crossing busy roads or anything, and if you fancy a change from going into town you can go down the walkway to the Shore in Leith where there are many great bars and restaurants.

An efficient public transport network operates to most parts of the City and surrounding areas. Edinburgh City Bypass and main motorway networks are also within easy reach.
