Gretna is a much younger town than many in Dumfries and Galloway, as it was built during World War 1 to house workers from the nearby munitions factory at Eastriggs - the largest such factory in the world at the time! There are a wide range of houses for sale in Gretna, from older properties to new builds, perfect for families and commuters to nearby Dumfries and Carlise. Gretna is the closest town to the English border and is well-served by the train line between Glasgow and Carlisle, with a journey time of roughly 35 minutes to Dumfries and just 20 minutes south to Carlisle.
